What Changes Tree-Removal Cost in Ottawa?

There is no useful one-price answer without the tree and property. A written quote should show the work method and material choices that explain the number—not hide them behind a size label.

The tree is only one part of the price

Height, trunk diameter, crown spread, condition, broken material and weight distribution influence the work. The consequences of a piece moving toward a house, road, pool or utility can matter more than height alone.

A sound open-yard tree that can be felled is a different production problem from a compromised tree that must be dismantled in small pieces over occupied property.

Access determines method and handling

Gate width, side yards, slopes, fences, gardens, soft ground, parking, traffic and distance to the chipper affect equipment and labour. Limited access can mean more rigging, smaller pieces and more manual handling.

Send wide photos of the tree, base, targets, driveway and narrowest access point. Measurements reduce surprises but do not replace an on-site review for complex work.

Permits, utilities and timing

Municipal reports or fees, utility coordination, public traffic controls and underground locates may sit outside the cutting price. Emergency or storm work can also involve changing weather, unstable material, night constraints and a make-safe phase before full completion.

The quote should say which third-party items are included, allowances or owner responsibilities, and what conditions could trigger a change.

Wood, brush, stump and restoration

Hauling logs and chips uses time, vehicles and disposal capacity. Leaving material may reduce handling only when the property has a suitable, agreed location. Stump grinding adds access, locate, depth and chip decisions; backfill, soil, seed and sod are additional finish choices.

Compare taxes, deposits, payment schedule, exclusions and change-order terms alongside the scope. A lower total can represent less work rather than a better price for the same result.

Common questions

Can I get an exact removal price from a photo?

Sometimes a preliminary scope is possible, but complex trees need an on-site look at condition, targets, access and method before an exact written quote.

Does keeping the firewood always reduce cost?

Not always. Wood still needs to be lowered, moved and cut to the agreed size. The result depends on handling distance, log size and where it can safely remain.

Why is stump grinding a separate price?

It uses different equipment and depends on gate access, locates, depth, roots, chips and final surface. Not every removal customer wants the same stump result.
